Power 90 Boot Camp Nutrition - What to Eat for 90 Days

Protein, fiber, antioxidants, vitamin C, growth hormones, maltodextrin, high fructose corn syrup??? Ok this list started off sounding great right? Well, if you are one of those people who believes the tried and true statement of “you are what you eat”, don’t you think we should know WHAT we are eating? If what we put in our bodies truly results in us becoming it, we should be thinking about what we are consuming. The truth of the matter is, we think that what we are consuming is what we want to be, but have you looked close enough to really know the ingredients and makeup of our food?

We live in a society that has an overwhelming amount of choices at the local grocery store to choose from for any given product. With this being the case we will automatically look for the best deal. Makes sense right? Well, unfortunately for our health this is the opposite of what we should be doing. 99% of these competing products all come from the same main company anyway, so we shouldn’t be looking for the best deal but for what is most REAL. What do I mean by real? Well some might say “corn is real…what’s wrong with corn?” Absolutely nothing when used in its original purposeful form. Now when you take that corn and genetically modify it to be a cheaper form of something that it isn’t….well now that is when we have a problem.

Stay Away From High Fructose Corn Syrup

This substance is now commonly known as high fructose corn syrup. This is just the first in a line of “real” substances altered to create foods that that provide no true nutritional value to the eater. It has truly become an epidemic in the common food choice. Everywhere you turn these “real” substances have been snuck into even the most common product as rice and pasta. This substance is linked with obesity, early onset diabetes, and high blood pressure.

This is why for our health’s sake we must read labels. What should we be looking for? To start, organics is a great way to cut out any unnecessary growth hormones, antibiotics, fillers, or altered substances such as high fructose corn syrup. Think of this as the old fashioned way of growing food…the real deal so to speak. If we are not in a position to do all organics, the next best thing is to look for natural foods with 5 or less ingredients listed on the box. By doing these few things you are guaranteed to become the better version of what you eat....true real food.
